Our Programs

The Fredericton Playhouse not only provides facilities and services to our community, but also provides its own series of programs throughout the year.

The Spotlight Series is the flagship program, featuring professional performances in music, theatre, comedy, circus and dance from local, national, and international artists. We strive to provide a diverse season each year, introducing our audiences to new artists and genres, while also showcasing fan-favourites.

Select performances in the Spotlight Series also have additional opportunities to enhance your experience – look for the Experience More! tagged activities in connection with Spotlight Series shows.

The Kidstage Series is designed to introduce young audiences to the magic of live performance. All shows in the Kidstage Series use a “pay what you will” pricing model.

In addition to the Spotlight and Kidstage series’ shows, the Playhouse also offers special matinée shows for school field trips each year, and additional special presentations throughout the year.

Established in 2008, the Playhouse continues the annual Playhouse Honours award, recognizing individuals in our community who have made significant contributions to the arts in Fredericton. You can see recipients of the Playhouse Honours award here.

In 2020, in response to the pandemic, the Playhouse opened its stage to be used for artistic residencies by local artists continuing to hone their craft in our professional theatre space. The InterMISSION residency program has continued since, offering residency opportunities each season during down times.

Ticket sales cover only a portion of the funding required to present programs at the Playhouse. We rely on our Friends of the Playhouse to provide the additional support needed to make these special programs available to school children, local artists, and other deserving members of our community.

Arts Are For Everyone, funded in part by our Friends of the Playhouse, provides discounted and complimentary tickets to community groups working to make the arts more accessible to everyone in our community.
