Tom Hoyt Recognized with Playhouse Honours 2026

The Fredericton Playhouse is pleased to announce producer and musician Tom Hoyt as the 2026 recipient of the Playhouse Honours.

This award celebrates individuals who have made a lasting impact on the region’s performing arts community. Hoyt is being recognized at a significant moment, as he concludes his long-standing role as producer of the New Brunswick Country Showcase, which presented its final season on April 18th 2026, after nearly four decades.

“Through Tom Hoyt’s work producing the New Brunswick Country Showcase, he has been instrumental in bringing live country music to communities across the province,” said Natalie Carrier, Chair of the Playhouse Honours Committee. “We’re honoured to recognize his lasting impact with the Playhouse Honours Award this year.”

Hoyt is a lifelong musician from Prince William, NB. He was inspired early on by his family’s musical roots, learning guitar under the guidance of Canadian country icon Danny Messer. Hoyt performed across the province with various bands including November Chill and Midnight Special before stepping into live event production in the early 1990s.

Under his leadership, the New Brunswick Country Showcase has grown into a cornerstone of the province’s country music scene. It has created opportunities for emerging artists and fostered a strong sense of community through music.

Over more than 30 years, Hoyt has supported hundreds of performers and launched the careers of many artists including Joan Kennedy, Julian Austin, and Chris Cummings, and The Martin Boys.

Hoyt is a previous recipient of the Mazzuca Award and was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023.

As the 2026 Playhouse Honours recipient, Tom Hoyt joins a celebrated group of performing arts pioneers who have shaped the cultural fabric of our region. The award will be presented later this season.

Established in 2008, the Playhouse Honours annually recognizes and celebrates the important work by members in the performing arts community in Fredericton. We believe in the value people can bring to the community through their work in the performing arts, and the Playhouse strives to foster a deeper appreciation of such contributions. A permanent display in the west gallery of the Playhouse recognizes each honouree.
