After a week-long InterMISSION Artist Residency at the Playhouse, Alyssa Martin and Rock Bottom Movement will present their work in this free showcase, inviting the public to participate in a talk-back after the performance. Big Time Miss is an absurdist dance-theatre-dramedy about self-reckoning and the radical act of changing fate. By dancing through parallel universe versions of their real-life selves, the dancers confront their futures and wrestle with what the past has swallowed whole. It is a detailed and surreal dissection of real life through contemporary dance. The work features original music by Semiah Smith and Jacob Vanderham in a creative collaboration that wanders genres like a curious bird.
Designed for local artists to nurture and support creativity and innovative practices in their craft, the InterMISSION residency program offers artists mentorship, access to professional facilities, and support. After completing her residency and showcase with audience feedback here at the Playhouse, Alyssa Martin and Rock Bottom Movement will premiere Big Time Miss at Fall For Dance North, Toronto’s premier international dance festival.
